Themes are intended to help with survey design as well as analysis and presentation of results. Think of them as a way to group and categorize survey questions. They are used to group survey questions together when designing and constructing a survey. A survey item may have more than one theme attached to it. Themes can be colour coded to make planning and reporting easier.
When designing surveys, we recommend starting with the overall goals and objectives and then creating the Themes that will help to achieve the overall goals. Each Theme can have its own goal and objectives.
So, let's say a theme is "Demographics". Then you can create objectives for that Theme. Those demographic objectives can then guide the development of the survey content, messages and survey questions or statements. Another theme might be "Leadership" and the goals and objectives for that theme could relate to understanding employee perceptions of leadership in an organization. Those goals and objectives then guide the development of the survey questions for that theme.
